Basinger and Theron team up for complex love story

Oscar winners Kim Basinger and Charlize Theron play mother and daughter in "The Burning Plain", an intense news report of love and treachery and the directorial debut by acclaimed Mexican film writer Guillermo Arriaga.

"My individuality is constructed by the people that I passion, by the people that surround me. Every time one dies, part of my identity is broken and lost. I am obsessed at how that loss of someone that I lovemaking affects my own identity."


Theron, who plays the emotionally-scarred Sylvia in "The Burning Plain", was also a producer on the film as she was on "Monster" for which she won a best actress Oscar.


"I'm mesmerised by how this industry survives, how it struggles," the 33-year-old said.


"I don't have to do it every time, but it's something that I truly enjoy when I feel I meet people where we're like-minded and we walk the same road and state the same story."


Basinger, 54, was not at the press group discussion in Venice, but Theron said her age brought a new dimension to her acting.


"There's a strength," said Theron. "Especially, I think now in her age more than when she was working in her 30s, there's a strength with this remnant vulnerability from her 20s that's just unbelievably beautiful to watch."


Other US films in rival in Venice include "Rachel Getting Married", directed by Oscar-winner Jonathan Demme and starring Anne Hathaway and Debra Winger, and "The Wrestler" with Mickey Rourke and directed by Darren Aronofsky. Kathryn Bigelow as well presents Iraq war dramatic event "The Hurt Locker".

As the number one white belt group of any importance, the Beastie Boys received the contempt of critics and strident hip-hop musicians, world Health Organization accused them of cultural pirating, particularly since they began as a hard-core punk group in 1981. Johnny Cash - Cash Honoured With New Country Car


Country music icon JOHNNY CASH has become the inspiration for a new vehicle exhibit at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville, Tennessee.

The late singer has been honoured with The Man in Black car, which was unveiled on Thursday (05Jun08) at the country mecca.

The car features Cash's likeness emblazoned on the hood, next to an image of tragic NASCAR racing driver Dale Earnhardt.

The new exhibit was created to emphasise country music's close connection with NASCAR.

A die-cast miniature of the vehicle will be marketed by Motorsports Authentics through its Action Racing Collectables brand, according to CMT.com.

Earnhardt's daughter Taylor and Cash's brother Tommy attended Thursday's ceremony.

Pop star mum defends parties

Pop star Christina Aguilera, mother of a five-month-old baby, has defended her late night partying.

The Dirrty singer - who gave birth to son Max Liron in January - says she is entitled to go out and enjoy herself with husband Jordan Bratman despite being a mother.

She said: "I spend all day with my son and once in a while if I want to go out and have a mummy-daddy night with my husband, I am more than allowed to do that.

"They never air footage of the paparazzi actually pulling up beside my husband and being like: 'When is she going to leave the house? I have been trying to get a picture of her for weeks'.

"Everybody has an opinion and everybody sometimes wants to cause drama and be mean spirited, but it's something that comes with what you do and I learned that very early on."

Christina hit Las Vegas' Pure nightclub at Caesars Palace on Saturday for the launch of the jewellery line inspired by her, the Stephen Webster Silver Collection.

The star also commented on the attention her post-baby breasts have attracted.

She added to US TV show Access Hollywood: "It's funny, me and my husband crack up about the bra sizes that we have been through since the pregnancy and delivery.

"It's nuts to know what the female body's capable of."
